Entry to the world of Eros seduction love passion

Eroticism in art, in culture, in tradition

The exhibition, of a museological character, consists of a collection of artistic expressions whose theme is eroticism in accordance with the culture and tradition of the peoples in their different historical contexts. Thus, starting with the crystal phallic amulets of the Luta homosexual tribe (2000 b.C., border between Iraq and Syria), the exhibition develops from the Etruscan and Roman art to the Belle Epoque, where artistic eroticism reaches its highest splendour. Seduction, with particular attention to the iconography and to all the instruments of seduction that permitted ladies to offer the best of their beauty. Love, with its gallant expressions and passion with erotic works of art. The exhibition is composed of about five hundred pieces among objects, sculptures, ceramics, bronzes, miniatures, slides, photographs, books and curiosities. Reading material is divided into sections: eroticism in ancient art, in modern art (since the beginning of the XIX Century), in publicity, in drawings, in images, in underwear. Currently, eroticism is omnipresent and constitutes, since the beginning of time, the “symbol” of the free society.

There have always been erotic representations, often clandestine, as the images and objects presented in this exhibition witness. They cause laughter, or smiles, scandalise or induce reflection. They excite or display a vital sexual power: they have multiple functions. There is no artistic genre where eroticism is completely absent, whether in the figurative arts or in photography or in the movies.

We are left with the impression that there was, alongside the official culture, another parallel culture, more discreet. We are therefore dealing with the study of the erotic traditions of the most varied civilisations throughout the centuries.
